Does the Village of Greenhills Have a Juvenile Curfew?
Yes. The Village of Greenhills has a juvenile curfew ordinance (509.08) designed to promote the safety and well-being of our youth while helping maintain a safe community for everyone.
Curfew Hours
Any person under the age of 18 is prohibited from being in or upon any public street, sidewalk, park, playground, public place, or establishment within the Village between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., unless one of the exceptions listed below applies.
Exceptions
The curfew ordinance does not apply when a juvenile is:
- Accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or another responsible adult authorized by the parent or guardian.
- Traveling directly to or from lawful employment.
- Attending or traveling directly to or from a school, religious, civic, or other organized activity.
- Responding to an emergency.
The purpose of the curfew ordinance is to help protect juveniles from becoming victims of crime, reduce juvenile crime and delinquency, encourage parental responsibility, and promote a safe and secure community.
Is There a Daytime Curfew for School-Age Children?
Yes. The Village of Greenhills has a daytime curfew ordinance (509.12) that helps ensure school-age children are attending school during required hours.
Children between the ages of 6 and 18 may not be on public streets, in public places, commercial establishments, or places of amusement during school hours when they are required to be in attendance at school, assigned to homebound instruction, or are serving a school suspension or expulsion.
Exceptions include children who are:
- Accompanied by a parent, guardian, or other responsible adult.
- Running an emergency errand.
- Conducting legitimate business as directed by a parent or guardian.
The purpose of this ordinance is to encourage school attendance, promote student safety, and reduce truancy.

Does the Greenhills Police Department offer Vacation House Checks?
Yes. Residents can request free vacation house checks while they are away. Officers will periodically check the exterior of your residence, and you will receive an email each time your home is checked for added peace of mind. You can sign up by clicking “Vacation Check” on the home page.
How do I request extra patrols around my home?
Residents may request extra patrols if they are experiencing suspicious activity or have concerns about their neighborhood. Contact the department and provide your address along with the reason for the request.
How do I obtain a copy of a police report?
Police reports can be requested through the Greenhills Police Department during normal business hours. Some reports may not be immediately available if the investigation is still ongoing.
When should I call the non-emergency police number?
Call 513-825-2101 for situations that require police assistance but are not emergencies, such as:
- Suspicious activity
- Minor traffic crashes
- Noise complaints
- Lost or found property
- Parking complaints
- General police assistance
When should I call 911?
Call 911 if there is an emergency involving a crime in progress, a fire, a medical emergency, or any situation where someone’s life or safety is in immediate danger.
Is there a barking dog ordinance in the Village of Greenhills?
Yes. Village Ordinance (505.09) prohibits barking or howling dogs.
No person shall keep or harbor any dog within the Municipality which, by frequent and habitual barking, howling or yelping, creates unreasonably loud and disturbing noises of such a character, intensity and duration as to disturb the peace, quiet and good order of the Municipality. Any person who shall allow any dog habitually to remain, be lodged or fed within any dwelling, building, yard or enclosure, which he occupies or owns, shall be considered as harboring such dog.
Whoever violates this section is guilty of a minor misdemeanor.
If you are experiencing an issue with a barking dog, we encourage you to:
- Speak with your neighbor first, as they may not be aware their dog is causing a disturbance.
- Keep a written record of the dates, times, and duration of the barking.
- If the problem continues, contact the Greenhills Police Department. Be prepared to provide your documentation so an officer can evaluate the complaint. Depending on the circumstances, an officer may issue a warning or citation.

Can Dogs Run at Large in the Village of Greenhills?
No. Village ordinance (505.01) requires all dogs to be kept under the control of their owner or keeper at all times.
Dogs must either:
- Be confined on the owner’s property, or
- Be under the reasonable control of a responsible person when off the property.
Dogs are not permitted to roam freely on public property or onto another person’s property without permission. In addition, female dogs that are in heat must remain on the owner’s property unless they are properly leashed.
Owners who allow their dogs to run at large may be cited. A first offense is a minor misdemeanor, while subsequent offenses may result in more serious penalties. A court may also require obedience training, order the owner to personally supervise the dog, and require reimbursement of the Village’s costs for handling or impounding the animal.
Dog owners may also be held financially responsible for any injuries or property damage caused by a dog that is negligently allowed to run at large.

Are Solicitors, Peddlers, and Canvassers Allowed in the Village of Greenhills?
Yes. (737.05) Solicitors, peddlers, and canvassers are permitted to operate within the Village, but they must comply with Village regulations designed to protect residents.
Some of the key requirements include:
- Soliciting is permitted only between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., or until sunset, whichever is later.
- Solicitors may not enter a residence unless they have been expressly invited by an adult occupant.
- Solicitors may not create excessive noise, disturb the peace, or engage in conduct that threatens the health, safety, or welfare of the public.
- Anyone required to register with the Village must carry both a Village-issued Certificate of Registration and photo identification while soliciting.
Residents are never obligated to speak with a solicitor and may politely decline or ask them to leave at any time. If you believe a solicitor is violating Village regulations or acting suspiciously, please contact the Greenhills Police Department at 513-825-2101.
Is It Illegal to Park in My Front Yard or on the Grass in the Village of Greenhills?
Yes. Village ordinance 351.03(a)(17) prohibits parking a vehicle in a front yard, on the grass, or on any unpaved area of a property.
Vehicles must be parked on a paved driveway, parking pad, or other approved paved parking area. Parking on lawns, grassy areas, or other unpaved surfaces is not permitted, even on your own property.
The only exception is for the temporary loading or unloading of passengers or materials, which must be done as quickly as possible.
These regulations help protect neighborhood appearance, prevent damage to lawns and public property, and promote the safety and orderly use of residential properties.

Can I Be in a Village Park After Hours?
No. Village ordinance 555.05 states that Village parks are closed from 10:00 p.m. until sunrise.
It is unlawful to enter or remain in any Village park or recreational facility during these hours unless you have written permission from the Municipal Manager.
These hours help protect park facilities, reduce vandalism and other criminal activity, and ensure the safety of all park visitors.

How Long Can I Leave My Vehicle Parked on a Village Street?
Per Village Ordinance 351.16, vehicles may not remain parked in the same location on a public street, within the public right-of-way, or on property open to the public for vehicular travel or parking for more than 72 consecutive hours, including weekends and holidays.
This ordinance helps ensure public streets and parking areas remain available for traffic, emergency access, street maintenance, and the general public. It also helps prevent the long-term storage or abandonment of vehicles in public areas.

What Is Considered an Abandoned Junk Vehicle?
Per Village Ordinance 303.06, a vehicle may be considered an abandoned junk motor vehicle if it is left:
- On private property for more than 72 hours without the property owner’s permission, or
- On a public street, public parking area, or public right-of-way for 72 consecutive hours or longer without notifying the Chief of Police of the reason it was left there.
In addition, the vehicle must meet at least three of the following conditions:
- It is three years old or older.
- It has extensive damage, such as broken windows, missing wheels, tires, engine, or transmission.
- It appears inoperable, unsafe, or unable to move under its own power.
- It has an estimated fair market value of $1,500 or less.
- It does not display a valid license plate or has an expired license plate or validation sticker.
Vehicles meeting these criteria may be subject to removal and other enforcement actions as provided by Village ordinance.
Does the police department do civilian fingerprinting?
